Cancer is the second leading cause of death; an early prognosis can significantly increase the life expectancy of those diagnosed. My work within the Joaquín Rodríguez López Lab has a focus on the utilization of molecules that are capable of binding to proteins that act as a biomarker. The work thus far emphasizes the importance of the study of interfacial interactions that occur on the surface of an electrode. I am developing methods to affect the binding affinity of proteins at the electrode surface with the overall purpose of curating a biosensor for cancer detection through the use of spectroelectrochemical methods.
